Ruth Lester Celebrates 100th Birthday!
May 2, 2013 4:26 pm
WWII Army Veteran shares her big day!
The Arbors at Taunton hosted a Birthday Bash in honor of resident Ruth Lester's 100th Birthday on April 17, 2013.
Mrs. Lester was born in Taunton and was a WWII flight nurse. She did her training at Bowman Field in Kentucky and was then stationed in Hawaii.
The officer who greeted the pilot and nurses at the landing field in Hawaii was the man Ruth married 6 years later, Captain Alec Lester. They were married for 30 years. Quips Ruth,"I married the first man I saw getting off the plane!"
Mrs. Lester's 'Secrets to Longevity' are good genes from her grandmother, good values & upbringing and a great family.
Taunton Mayor Thomas Hoye presented Mrs. Lester with a citation commemorating this grand milestone. When Mayor Hoye asked her what it was like to turn 100, she replied, "It's better than 99!"
Activities Director, Vicky Ray, made her famous champagne punch, delicious cake and icecream was served and musician Susan Lainey kept the crowd singing and dancing.
A delightful time was had by all!
